The Community Health Guide (CHG) Karmachari Oikya Mancha has officially announced a large-scale protest demonstration to press for their long-standing demands. In a press conference held recently, the organization’s leadership detailed their plans to stage a two-hour mass sit-in (Gana Dharna) at the foot of the Gandhi Statue in the Agartala Circuit House area on February 23.
Demands for Dignity and Recognition
During the press meet, representatives of the Oikya Mancha highlighted the grievances of the Community Health Guides who have been working at the grassroots level of the state’s healthcare system. Despite their consistent service in rural and urban pockets, the workers expressed frustration over several unresolved issues, including:
- Regularization of Services: A primary demand for job security and formal recognition within the health department.
- Honorarium Revision: Calls for a fair increase in monthly allowances to match the rising cost of living.
- Social Security Benefits: Requesting basic welfare schemes and insurance coverage for frontline health workers.
The Road Ahead: February 23 Protest
The leadership emphasized that the decision to take to the streets comes after multiple representations to the concerned authorities failed to yield concrete results.
”We have been serving the people with dedication, but our own futures remain uncertain. This two-hour protest on February 23 is a wake-up call for the administration. If our demands are not met, we will be forced to intensify our movement across the state,” a spokesperson for the Mancha stated.
The organization has called upon all CHG workers across Tripura to join the demonstration at the Gandhi Murti to ensure their collective voice reaches the state government.
