News Report:
A protest programme was organised from the Agartala Congress Bhavan opposing the proposed name change of the MGNREGA scheme. Congress workers and supporters participated in the demonstration, expressing strong resentment over what they termed an attempt to dilute the legacy and intent of the flagship rural employment programme.
Following the protest march, demonstrators burnt an effigy of Narendra Modi, symbolising their opposition to the move. Speakers at the programme criticised the central government, alleging that renaming the scheme undermines its historical significance and the rights of rural workers who depend on it for livelihood security.
The protest concluded peacefully, with party leaders reiterating their demand that the original name of MGNREGA be retained and urging the government to focus on strengthening the scheme rather than altering its identity.
