Cyclone Shakhti Live Updates: Cyclone Shakhti Strengthens, Heavy Rain Alert for Maharashtra
Cyclone Shakhti is rapidly intensifying over the Arabian Sea, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a heavy rain alert for parts of Maharashtra. Shakhti marks the first cyclonic storm of the season in the Arabian Sea, following the conclusion of the monsoon season.
Several regions in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, are expected to experience heavy rainfall as Shakhti progresses. The weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in the interior areas of Maharashtra, particularly in East Vidarbha and parts of Marathwada. The intense cloud formation and moisture infiltration into the atmosphere may lead to flooding in low-lying areas of North Konkan.
Fishermen have been strongly advised against venturing into the affected regions during this period to ensure their safety.
As of the latest update, the severe cyclonic storm Shakhti has been moving westward over the northeast Arabian Sea at a speed of 18 kmph over the past six hours.
