AGARTALA: In a major push toward the digitalization of social security, the Labor Department of the Government of Tripura launched a dynamic web-based application and a dedicated mobile app for the Construction Workers’ Welfare Scheme today. The high-tech initiative was inaugurated at Pragya Bhavan by the Minister for Labor, Youth Affairs & Sports, and Social Welfare, Shri Tinku Roy.
The launch marks a milestone in ensuring transparency and ease of access for thousands of construction workers across the state, who can now avail themselves of government benefits through their smartphones.
Empowering the Backbone of Infrastructure
The ceremony began with a detailed video presentation on the Nirman Shramik Kalyan Prakalpa (NSKP), showcasing the various life-changing benefits provided by the department. Following the screening, Minister Tinku Roy officially went live with the digital platforms by pressing a symbolic button.
Key Highlights of the Digital Launch:
- Direct Access: Workers can now register themselves, renew memberships, and apply for financial assistance (education, marriage, or medical grants) without visiting government offices.
- Real-Time Tracking: The dynamic nature of the app allows laborers to track the status of their applications and receive notifications directly.
- Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): The portal is integrated to ensure that welfare funds are transferred directly into the verified bank accounts of the beneficiaries, eliminating middlemen.
Dignitaries Emphasize “Ease of Living”
The event saw the participation of top administrative officials who highlighted the technical robustness of the new system:
- Shri Kiran Gitte, Secretary, Labor Department: He spoke about the department’s vision to create a comprehensive database of the unorganized workforce to better tailor future welfare policies.
- Shri Biswajit Paul, Labor Commissioner: He provided a technical overview of how the mobile app will function even in areas with low internet connectivity.
Minister’s Vision
Addressing the gathering, Minister Tinku Roy stated that the “Double Engine” government is committed to the philosophy of Antyodaya—serving the last person in the queue.
”Our construction workers are the builders of modern Tripura. By bringing the Labor Department to their fingertips, we are ensuring that no worker is deprived of their rightful dues due to paperwork or distance. This app is a tool for their empowerment and dignity,” the Minister remarked.
A Step Toward “Smart Tripura”
The launch is part of a broader mandate to digitize all citizen-centric services in the state. The Labor Department has announced that “Help Desks” will be set up at all labor offices and blocks to assist workers who may need help navigating the new mobile application.
