A discussion programme on the human rights situation of minorities in Bangladesh, particularly in the context of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord, was organised on Tuesday at the Agartala Press Club by the organisation Campaign for Humanity Protection. The event focused on raising awareness about ongoing challenges faced by indigenous and minority communities across the border.
The session was chaired by Niranjan Chakma, who highlighted the historical significance of the CHT Accord and the need for sustained advocacy to ensure its full implementation.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar Kar attended as the chief guest, stressing that the protection of minority rights is essential for regional peace and stability. He underscored the importance of cross-border dialogue and humanitarian engagement.
Distinguished guest Dr. Shymal Chakma spoke on the socio-political vulnerabilities of the CHT communities, while vice president Nayan Jyoti Tripura emphasised the role of civil society in amplifying marginalized voices.
Renowned social worker and former vice-chairman Bipanshu Chakma also addressed the gathering, urging collective efforts to safeguard the dignity and rights of minorities.
Other participants echoed the need for international attention, community solidarity, and continued advocacy to ensure that the promises of the CHT Accord translate into meaningful security and equality for affected groups.
