On the occasion of Police Week 2026, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha addressed a press conference today at the AD Nagar Police Ground (MDS Stadium). Following the ceremonial parade, the Chief Minister provided a detailed overview of the state’s law and order situation, highlighting the unprecedented success of the “Nasha Mukt Tripura” (Drug-Free Tripura) campaign.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, shared staggering data regarding narcotics suppression, revealing a significant intensification in the state’s battle against drug trafficking.
Major Highlights from the Press Conference:
- Record Drug Seizures: Dr. Saha announced that in the past year alone, Tripura Police and security agencies seized narcotics worth approximately ₹1,641 crore. This figure is nearly half of the state’s annual budget, reflecting the massive scale of the illegal trade being targeted.
- Doubling the Impact: The quantity of drugs seized and destroyed has doubled compared to previous years. The CM noted that while enforcement has reached new heights, the persistence of trafficking routes remains a challenge that the government is determined to crush.
- Improved Law & Order: Providing statistical evidence, the Chief Minister asserted that overall crime rates—including border-related offenses, robbery, and crimes against women—have seen a downward trend due to proactive policing.
- Tribute to Martyrs: Before the briefing, the CM paid a solemn tribute to the police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, emphasizing that their sacrifice is the foundation of the state’s current peace.
Future Roadmap for Tripura Police
The Chief Minister expressed his strong confidence in the Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR), urging them to maintain their tradition of excellence with “sincerity, honesty, and professionalism.”
”Our campaign against drugs will continue with even greater determination. We are not just seizing substances; we are saving a generation. The Tripura Police is working with distinction in every field, from crime control to road safety,” Dr. Saha told the reporters.
The press conference concluded with the CM reiterating that the state government is committed to providing modern weaponry and advanced digital forensic tools to the force to tackle evolving criminal tactics.
