In a major breakthrough against street crimes in the capital, the East Agartala Police successfully apprehended two snatchers involved in a recent series of incidents. While the police managed to recover a snatched mobile phone and a motorcycle used in the crime, the stolen cash remains unrecovered as the suspects reportedly spent the amount.
Swift Action by East Agartala Police
The arrests were made following a targeted operation based on specific complaints and intelligence tracking. The duo had been under the radar for several snatching incidents reported in the busy pockets of the city.
OC Subrata Debnath, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, confirmed the development to the media.
”We have arrested two snatchers and recovered a mobile phone and a bike from their possession. However, the cash could not be recovered as the accused admitted to having spent all the money shortly after the crime,” OC Debnath stated.
Modus Operandi: Using Bikes for Quick Escapes
According to the police, the duo used a high-speed motorcycle to target unsuspecting pedestrians, particularly in poorly lit or less crowded areas. After snatching mobile phones or bags, they would use the bike to make a quick getaway. The recovery of the bike is considered a crucial piece of evidence in linking them to previous unsolved cases in the capital.
Produced in Court
The two accused individuals were scheduled to be produced before the Agartala Court today. The police are likely to seek their custody for further interrogation to identify any larger racket or other accomplices operating within the city.
Police Assurance on Public Safety
OC Subrata Debnath reiterated that the city police are on high alert to curb the rising menace of snatching and petty thefts. Patrolling has been intensified in commercial zones and residential areas to ensure the safety of the citizens.
