The family of the tourists from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case. Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was found in a gorge at the Weight Sawdong tourist falls in Cherrapunji, while his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi remains missing.
Raja’s brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, expressed disappointment with the current investigation by Meghalaya police, stating, “The way the Meghalaya police is working on this case, they won’t bring justice to Raja.” The couple had gone missing on May 23 during their honeymoon trip to the northeastern state.
In an interview with ANI, Vipul Raghuvanshi said, “We have written a letter to the Prime Minister requesting a CBI inquiry and submitted it at the commissioner’s office. We want the PM and Chief Minister to support us, and a CBI investigation could bring justice to Raja and help find Sonam easier.”
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed grief over the incident and assured that all necessary steps would be taken to arrest those responsible. Sangma called the incident “very unfortunate” and emphasized the importance of the case to the state government.
The couple had tied the knot on May 11 and left for their Shillong trip from Indore on May 20. They had their last conversation with family members on May 23 before their phones were switched off. The search operation for Sonam Raghuvanshi is still ongoing.
