For the first time in Tripura, a Swadeshi Mela will be organised in Agartala with the aim of promoting indigenous products and strengthening local entrepreneurship, said Deepak Majumdar, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation. The fair will be held on January 9, 10 and 11 at Vivekananda Maidan, Agartala, under the initiative of the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
The concept of Swadeshi Jagaran aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Vocal for Local, which encourages citizens to support domestic industries, reduce dependence on foreign products, and strengthen economic self-reliance. In line with this national vision, various programmes are being undertaken across states to promote swadeshi products and local culture.
The Swadeshi Mela in Agartala will be formally inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Manik Saha. A preparatory meeting to ensure the success of the event was held on Monday at the Municipal Corporation conference hall.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Deepak Majumdar, Dr Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura; D K Chakma, Municipal Commissioner; Subrata Chakraborty, Vice Chairman of the Cultural Committee of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, along with other officials.
Addressing the media, the Mayor said the fair will remain open to the public daily from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Around 60 to 65 stalls will be set up, including awareness stalls from various government departments. Products from Patanjali and other ashrams will also be showcased.
The mela will feature daily cultural programmes, stalls showcasing traditional food of Tripura’s tribal and non-tribal communities, and displays reflecting the state’s rich mixed culture. Emphasising the theme of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Atmanirbhar Tripura, Mayor Majumdar urged people from all sections of society to actively participate and make the Swadeshi Mela a grand success.
