AGARTALA: The 9th Session of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly commenced today with the customary address by Governor Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu. The opening day of the crucial Budget Session served as a roadmap for the state government’s fiscal priorities and developmental vision for the 2026–27 financial year.
The Governor’s speech, which spanned key achievements and upcoming initiatives, was delivered before a full house at the New Capital Complex.
Highlights of the Governor’s Address
In his statutory address, the Governor praised the state’s transition toward an investment-friendly destination and its focus on inclusive growth.
- Economic Momentum: The Governor highlighted that over 120 investors have shown interest in Tripura, with 87 MoUs worth approximately ₹3,800 crore signed across sectors like IT, healthcare, and tourism.
- Empowering Women: He made special mention of the recently launched Tripura Women Entrepreneurship Policy 2025, which aims to provide credit and market access to female-led MSMEs.
- Green Energy & Recognition: Tripura’s leadership in renewable energy was lauded, specifically for installing the highest number of solar pumps under the PM-KUSUM scheme. He also congratulated the state for winning the Excellence Award at the 44th IITF 2025.
- Unity in Diversity: Reflecting the state’s cultural fabric, the Governor began his speech in Kokborok, followed by portions in Bengali and English, a gesture widely appreciated by the treasury benches.
Tributes to Late Speaker Biswabandhu Sen
Following the Governor’s address, the House transitioned into a solemn mood to pay tribute to the former Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, the late Biswabandhu Sen.
Leaders from both the ruling and opposition benches shared obituary references, recalling his contributions to the parliamentary traditions of the state. As a mark of respect to the departed leader, the proceedings were adjourned for the day shortly after the condolence motion.
Looking Ahead: The Road to the Budget
With the first day concluded, the political focus now shifts to the presentation of the State Budget.
Upcoming Key Dates:
- March 16: Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy will present the State Budget for 2026–27.
- Legislative Business: Three major bills—the Tripura University of Health Sciences Bill, the Technical University Bill, and the Women’s University Bill—are expected to be tabled during this session.
- Debates: Discussion on the Governor’s address and the budget proposals will follow, with the Leader of the Opposition scheduled to speak on March 19.
The session, which will consist of 9 working days, is scheduled to continue until March 25, 2026.
