An under-construction guest house located in a disputed area along the Mizoram-Tripura border was destroyed by unidentified individuals on the morning of May 28th. The incident, which involved the use of explosives, took place in an area near Mizoram’s Phuldungsei village in Mamit district, a region claimed by both Mizoram and Tripura.
Mizoram’s Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), H. Ramthlengliana, confirmed the destruction of the guest house, which was being built by the Tripura Forest Department. He stated that construction had been halted by the Tripura government following objections raised by Mizoram.
Despite the explosion, the situation along the inter-state border remains calm. Authorities have informed their counterparts in Tripura about the incident, and an investigation is currently underway. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the destruction of the guest house.
Mizoram and Tripura share a 66-kilometer long border, and tensions have been escalating in the region in recent times. Civil society organizations and student groups in Mizoram have been vocal in their opposition to the construction of the guest house, adding to the existing tensions between the two states over territorial disputes.
The destruction of the guest house has raised concerns about the fragile peace along the Mizoram-Tripura border, and authorities are working to ensure that the situation does not escalate further. Further updates on the investigation will be provided as they become available.
