The Voluntary Health Association of Tripura (VHAT) organized a significant one-day workshop today at the IMA House in Agartala. The event focused on enhancing the network of community-based health interventions and child protection mechanisms across the state.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from the health sector, administrative bodies, and social activists to discuss the roadmap for a “Healthy and Child-Friendly Tripura.”
Strengthening the Social Safety Net
The program was graced by Shri Biswajit Shil, Sabhadhipati (President) of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he lauded the Voluntary Health Association for its decades of service in providing healthcare access to the remotest parts of the state.
”The role of organizations like VHAT is crucial in supporting the government’s healthcare missions. Whether it is TB elimination or maternal health, the involvement of voluntary associations ensures that we reach the last person in the queue,” Shri Biswajit Shil remarked.
Focus on Child Rights and Protection
Smt. Jayanti Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), was also a prominent speaker at the event. She highlighted the critical link between a child’s health and their legal protection.
Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma stated:
”Health is a fundamental right of every child. Through this workshop, we aim to sensitize health workers to identify signs of abuse or neglect early. Our mission for a ‘Child Marriage-Free Tripura’ also relies heavily on the awareness spread by health volunteers at the grassroots level.”
