On the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri (Shiv Chaturdashi), the capital city witnessed a landmark event in its spiritual and cultural calendar. The foundation stone for the reconstruction of the decades-old, historic Sarvajanin Kali Temple at Agartala Mahavir Club was officially laid today by the Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Shri Dipak Majumder.
The ceremony, held this Monday morning, was attended by a large number of local residents, club members, and devotees who have long awaited the restoration of this ancient place of worship.
A Sacred Beginning on an Auspicious Day
The choice of Maha Shivaratri for the foundation-laying ceremony added a layer of profound spiritual significance to the event. Amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns and traditional rituals, Mayor Majumder performed the “Bhoomi Pujan,” marking the start of a new chapter for the temple.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Dipak Majumder emphasized the importance of preserving the city’s heritage:
”The Mahavir Club Kali Temple has been a center of faith for generations in Agartala. On this holy day of Shivaratri, we take a pledge to rebuild this temple with modern amenities while maintaining its traditional sanctity. Our government and the AMC are committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen our social and spiritual bonds.”
