As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season progresses, several high-value players who were bought for crores in the auction have yet to make their debut on the field. Despite being among the costliest picks of the season, these players have been warming the benches for various reasons such as injuries, lack of match fitness, or team strategy.
One such player is Mayank Yadav, who was retained by Lucknow Super Giants for a whopping Rs 11 crore. Known for his express pace and match-winning spells, Yadav has been sidelined due to injury. However, with the franchise currently in playoff contention, his return could be crucial in the final stretch of the season.
Another high-priced player yet to feature in a match is T Natarajan, who was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 10.75 crore after a successful stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the previous season. Despite being one of the top wicket-takers last year, Natarajan has not been able to break into the playing XI due to fitness issues. However, DC has been performing well, currently second on the points table.
Jacob Bethell, the English all-rounder bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for Rs 2.6 crore, has also not seen any game time yet. With other overseas players occupying the all-rounder spots, Bethell may have to wait for an opportunity due to rotation or injuries.
Gerald Coetzee, the South African pacer picked up by Gujarat Titans for Rs 2.4 crore, has also been warming the bench despite his proven pace and wicket-taking ability. With Gujarat Titans performing well and consistent performances from their bowling lineup, Coetzee has not been able to break into the playing XI.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the Afghanistan opener retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 2 crore, has not featured in a single match this season. With Quinton de Kock holding on to the wicketkeeper-opener role and KKR struggling in the lower half of the table, the management has been cautious about altering the top order.
As the IPL 2025 season progresses, the fate of these high-priced players remains uncertain. While some may get a chance to showcase their skills in the remaining matches, others may have to wait for their opportunity to prove their worth on the field.
