Multiple complaints alleging the illegal filling of the Prabhubari pond in Agartala were recently submitted to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. Acting on the information, a team from the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), led by Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder, visited the site on Tuesday to assess the situation.
Mayor Majumder, accompanied by Corporator Ratna Dutta and senior officials of the Municipal Corporation, inspected the alleged encroachment area where portions of the pond were reportedly being filled unlawfully. Officials examined the extent of the land alteration and spoke to local residents during the on-site review.
Following the inspection, the Mayor informed the media that a formal notice has already been served to those responsible for the illegal activity. He reiterated that the Municipal Corporation will take strict action to prevent encroachment on water bodies, emphasising the importance of protecting natural ponds for flood control, ecological balance, and community welfare.
The AMC team stated that further steps will be taken based on the findings of the inspection and compliance with the issued notice.
