Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, has made shocking allegations against Army Chief Gen Asim Munir, claiming that his wife, Bushra Bibi, has been unfairly targeted and unjustly incarcerated due to Munir’s vindictive nature. Khan, who himself has been in jail for nearly two years in various cases, spoke out about the treatment his wife has faced at the hands of the military-backed regime.
According to Khan, General Asim Munir turned against his wife after Khan removed him from the position of Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Khan stated that Munir tried to approach Bushra Bibi through intermediaries after his removal, but she refused to meet with him as she had no involvement in such matters.
Khan went on to criticize the military regime, accusing them of orchestrating a plan to eliminate the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, to which he belongs. He claimed that the events of May 9, 2023, where military installations were targeted, were part of a larger scheme to oppress his party and steal their democratic mandate.
Khan also called out the judiciary in Pakistan, accusing them of being complicit in the repression against his party members. He demanded a transparent investigation into the incidents of May 9 and November 26, 2024, in which unarmed pro-democracy protesters were allegedly massacred.
Furthermore, Khan expressed frustration at the lack of access to evidence, such as CCTV footage, that could potentially prove the innocence of him and his party members who have been imprisoned or sentenced without a fair trial. He called for the release and review of this crucial evidence to ensure justice is served.
In a recent development, a Pakistani court sentenced 11 supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, including a lawmaker, for their involvement in violent protests on May 9, 2023. The protesters had vandalised public property and attacked defense installations in the capital city as they protested against Khan’s arrest.
Imran Khan’s allegations and demands have stirred controversy and raised questions about the judicial system and the treatment of political dissent in Pakistan. The case continues to unfold as Khan and his supporters fight for justice and accountability in the face of alleged oppression and injustice.
