India has further escalated tensions with Pakistan by suspending all mail and parcel delivery between the two countries. The decision, announced by Union Minister Jyotiradita Scindia, applies to all categories of inbound mails and parcels from Pakistan through air and surface routes.
This move comes on the heels of a previous ban by the Indian government on Pakistani imports. The ban prohibits the direct or indirect import and transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, regardless of their import status. This effectively puts a halt to bilateral trade flows between the two countries.
According to Ajay Srivastava, Founder of the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI), this latest ban will reduce Indian imports from Pakistan to zero from the current level of about half a million US dollars. The decision is likely to have a significant impact on trade relations between the two neighboring countries.
The Ministry of Communications, Department of Posts, also confirmed the suspension of mail and parcel delivery with Pakistan. India Post tweeted the statement, further emphasizing the government’s stance on the matter.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have been high for years, with both countries engaging in occasional border skirmishes and political disputes. The recent bans on imports and mail delivery are expected to further strain relations between the two nations.
