Why Was Telangana Techie Shot Dead in the US? What Police and Family Revealed
Telangana techie’s father has asked S Jaishankar to help bring his son’s body home, seeking assistance from Indian Embassy and Consulate.
Roommate dispute is blamed for spiraling out of control and turning fatal for a 30-year-old software professional from Telangana’s Mahabubnagar who was killed by police gunfire during a shooting incident this month in the United States.
Mohammed Nizamuddin, who was employed in Santa Clara, California, was killed when police shot him during a struggle inside his residence on September 3, said both a family report and a statement by the Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD).
His father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, stated PTI told the family only on Thursday. “We only got the information this (Thursday) morning,” he added.
He said this while writing to external affairs minister S Jaishankar. He said, “Today morning, I came to know he (Nizamuddin) was shot dead by Santa Clara Police and his mortal remains are in some hospital in Santa Clara, California. I do not know the actual reasons why the police shot him dead.”
Hasnuddin said he was told by his son’s friend that there was a fight with his roommate over a small issue. However, a victim’s family member told ANI it was over an AC and got violent involving knives.
“Police entered the room and asked everyone to raise their hands. There was a boy who raised hands; there was another who did not. The police opened fire with four shots and killed the child. What is worst is that there was no proper investigation and there was shooting at utmost speed,” said the relative.
Hasnuddin asked Jaishankar to direct the Embassy of India, Washington, DC, and the Consulate General India, San Francisco to facilitate returning his son’s body to Mahabubnagar. Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan, who issued the letter of the family to the press, requested the minister to act upon it as well.
NDTV broadcast a report with a police statement that Mohammed Nizamuddin was found inside his Santa Clara residence with a knife and was allegedly restraining his roommate when police responded to a 911 stabbing report.
“SCPD officers arrived and made contact with a suspect and ended up in an Officer-Involved Shooting. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, where it was later pronounced dead. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is receiving treatment for their injuries,” NDTV quoted a statement as saying.
The department proceeded to say, “The District Attorney’s Office and Santa Clara Police Department are conducting a joint investigation. This is an active and open investigation. We expect to release an update tomorrow afternoon as we continue along with the investigation.”
