Police in Churaibari have seized a large quantity of ganja, valued at approximately one crore rupees, and arrested a truck driver involved in an innovative smuggling attempt using a modified muri-making machine.
Ganja Hidden in Muri Machine Seized
Police in Churaibari have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant amount of ganja using a novel method. They seized the drugs and arrested the truck driver. This incident demonstrates, once again, the smugglers’ continuous efforts to find new ways to operate, and the police’s success in countering them.
The incident occurred on Friday around 10 PM at the Churaibari Naka point. Police, led by Officer-in-Charge Khokon Saha, were conducting a routine check when they stopped a mini-truck bearing the registration number TR01AQ-1516, traveling from Teliamura towards Assam.
During the search, police found a muri (puffed rice) making machine inside the truck. Suspecting something amiss, they opened the machine and discovered packets of ganja hidden within. In total, police recovered 59 packets containing 345 kilograms of dry ganja. Additional Superintendent of Police J. Darlong stated that the seized ganja has an estimated black market value of approximately one crore and three lakh rupees.
Police arrested the truck driver, identified as Manita Mohan Jamatia, 45, son of Krishna Banshi Jamatia, a resident of the Khamarbari area of Teliamura in Khowai district.
During initial questioning, the driver revealed that he had loaded the ganja in the Padmabil area of Khowai town and was transporting it to Assam. He further disclosed that the final destination of the drugs was Bihar. Police have registered a case against the arrested driver under the NDPS Act and are continuing their investigation, according to the Additional Superintendent of Police.
The police have been conducting extensive operations, which had previously caused drug mafias to lie low. However, they are now re-emerging with increasingly sophisticated smuggling methods. Despite these efforts, the police remain vigilant and are successfully intercepting their operations.
