AGARTALA: Strengthening the front against the Central Government’s economic policies, the Tripura State Unit of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) today announced its full-scale participation in the Nationwide General Strike and mass movement scheduled for tomorrow, February 12, 2026.
The announcement was made during a high-profile press conference held at the state INTUC office on Wednesday afternoon, led by State President Shri Biplab Kumar Roy and General Secretary Shri Swapan Dey.
A United Front Against Corporate-Centric Policies
Addressing the media, the INTUC leadership stated that the strike is a direct response to the “anti-labor, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate” policies implemented by the Union Government. The movement is being spearheaded by a joint platform of Central Trade Unions and various independent sectoral federations across India.
“The rights of the working class are under unprecedented attack. From the dilution of labor laws to the privatization of national assets, the current regime is prioritizing corporate profit over the survival of common citizens. Tomorrow, INTUC will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the laborers of Tripura to send a clear message to Delhi,” President Biplab Kumar Roy asserted.
Sectors Expected to be Affected
The INTUC leaders confirmed that the strike would resonate across both urban and rural landscapes of Tripura. Key sectors expected to see significant participation include:
- Government & Private Sectors: Employees from various state and central undertakings.
- Tea Gardens & Construction: Large-scale mobilization of tea garden workers and construction laborers.
- Transport & Unorganized Sector: Drivers, helpers, and small-scale vendors are expected to halt operations in solidarity.
- Rural Workforce: A massive turnout of MGNREGA workers, farmers, and agricultural laborers is anticipated.
Broad Social Support
The press conference highlighted that this is not just a labor strike but a broader social movement.
- Student & Youth Support: Student wings and youth organizations have pledged active involvement in the demonstrations.
- Farmer Solidarity: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and various agricultural labor unions have officially extended their full support to the strike.
Leadership Present
The briefing saw a strong presence of the state committee, including Vice-President Sushanta Chowdhury, Vice-President Subhash Majumder, and other key office-bearers. They collectively urged the people of Tripura to observe the strike peacefully but resolutely to protect the democratic and economic fabric of the state.
Administration on High Alert
While the INTUC and other unions prepare for a state-wide shutdown, the local administration has beefed up security at vital installations, including the Agartala Airport, Railway Station, and Civil Secretariat. Despite the government’s earlier warnings regarding employee attendance, the INTUC leadership remained defiant, stating that “constitutional rights cannot be suppressed by administrative memos.”
