The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) made a strong statement on August 23 by organizing a mass gathering at Agartala’s Math Chowmuhani to push for their demand for a separate state. The event was attended by IPFT MLA and Tripura State Cabinet Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, as well as other party leaders and supporters.
The mass gathering served as a platform for IPFT to reiterate their commitment to the pursuit of statehood, a cause that lies at the heart of the party’s political agenda. Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, while addressing the crowd, emphasized that the party has been actively advocating for this issue since its inception in 2009.
“Our party has been active from 2009 up to 2025. The issue behind our party’s gatherings and programs is not a new one–it has always been the same. From the very beginning, we have been carrying forward the same issue,” Minister Noatia stated.
He further added, “Until the demand for a separate state is fulfilled, our party’s movement and activities will continue to focus on this issue.”
In a separate event earlier in the day, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the Northeast NSS Festival at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala. The Chief Minister expressed that this five-day program aims to strengthen unity in diversity.
The festival, which is being held from August 23 to 27, 2025, has brought together hundreds of NSS volunteers from various northeastern states for a celebration of youth power, cultural exchange, and social service. The event is jointly organized by the Tripura State NSS Cell, the NSS Regional Directorate of NER, Guwahati, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
