The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), a crucial ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura, has set its sights on the 2026 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections with a renewed sense of determination and strength to improve upon its lackluster performance in the 2021 polls.
Currently, the TTAADC is under the governance of the Tipra Motha Party, with the BJP serving as the opposition. However, IPFT leaders made it clear on Thursday that their organization is poised for a comeback and is ready to reclaim its political standing in the tribal council.
During the party’s Central Executive Meeting held in anticipation of IPFT’s Foundation Day on August 23, which is traditionally recognized for its longstanding demand for Tipraland, IPFT leader and Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, along with party president and former minister Prem Kumar Reang, stated that the party is experiencing a resurgence.
“In 2021, IPFT faced organizational weaknesses due to various factors and political schemes, impacting our performance. However, we have now strengthened our structure throughout the state. Many who had previously departed from the party are now returning, and recruitment drives are being conducted regularly,” Noatia explained.
He underscored that the party is gearing up to play a pivotal role in the upcoming 2026 elections. “While our specific strategy will be finalized in due course, IPFT is diligently working to solidify its support base. We remain steadfast in our demand for a separate state for TTAADC, a stance we have maintained for over 15 years,” he affirmed.
The IPFT leadership exuded confidence that the party’s expanding grassroots involvement and organizational resurgence will lead to electoral successes in 2026.
