The Israel-Iran conflict continues to escalate as Iran launched a new wave of missile attacks on Israel early Monday, June 16, 2025. The United Nations nuclear watchdog chief, Rafael Grossi, reported that there was ‘no further damage at Iranian enrichment facilities’ following the attacks. The missile strikes triggered air raid sirens across Israel, with emergency services reporting that projectiles struck in Israel’s north and center, resulting in at least 91 people being wounded.
Powerful explosions were heard in Tel Aviv, believed to be from Israel’s defence systems intercepting the Iranian missiles, marking the fourth day of open warfare between the two regional foes. Israel’s military retaliated by striking command centers in Tehran belonging to Iran’s Quds Force, the foreign operations arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued a warning, stating that Tehran’s residents would “pay the price” for the Iranian strikes on Israeli civilians, which resulted in several deaths.
As the conflict continues to escalate, leaders from the Group of Seven, including US President Donald Trump, are preparing to hold talks in the Canadian Rockies. They will be addressing the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel and discussing whether they can find common ground on the issue. Canada is reportedly reaching out to other countries to make a joint statement on the situation, which could call for de-escalation or simply back Israel’s right to defend itself in response to Iran’s actions.
In response to the escalating missile strikes, the Embassy of India in Tehran has begun coordinating with local Iranian authorities to relocate Indian students in Iran to safer locations. Buses have started transporting students from various universities, including Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad University Tehran Medical Sciences, and Iran University of Medical Sciences, as tensions between Israel and Iran continue to rise.
