The Jammu and Kashmir government has taken stringent measures to ensure the safety of tourists in the region following renewed terror threats. In the aftermath of the deadly attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, where 26 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives, intelligence reports have indicated the possibility of further attacks by reactivated sleeper cells.
As a result, the government has ordered the closure of 48 out of 87 tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley. Security sources have confirmed that intercepted communications point towards planned targeted killings and a potential larger-scale strike. These threats are believed to be in retaliation for the demolition of properties linked to active militants after the Pahalgam attack.
In response to the heightened security concerns, anti-fidayeen units from the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group have been deployed to safeguard popular tourist spots such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and the Dal Lake area. Additionally, troop movements and patrols have been increased in vulnerable areas across the valley.
The terror attack in Baisaran Valley on April 22, carried out by Pakistan-based operatives, resulted in chaos and fear among tourists, leading to a mass exodus from the region. In a swift response, security forces have conducted raids, detained suspects with alleged terror links, and intensified surveillance efforts to prevent any further attacks.
Authorities have also demolished hideouts and residential structures used by known terrorists as part of a comprehensive crackdown on terrorism. Despite the security challenges, tourism officials are working to restore confidence in the safety of the region and have advised visitors to adhere to official guidelines for their own safety.
The government’s efforts to stabilize the situation and protect tourists in Kashmir reflect a commitment to ensuring the security and well-being of all those visiting the picturesque valley.
