A joint security operation conducted in Tripura on November 15 resulted in the discovery of a pistol, ammunition, and a cache of suspected Bangladeshi-origin drugs during a raid at a house near the Srimantapur border, according to police officials.
The operation, carried out by Tripura Police from Sonamura Police Station and Border Security Force personnel, targeted the residence of Babul Miah, also known as Body Babul, in Rabindra Nagar, Bhogjpur. The raid was prompted by what authorities described as a credible tip-off.
The search, which began at 3:30 pm, took place in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses to ensure transparency and adherence to legal procedures.
During the operation, law enforcement officers found a factory-made pistol with a magazine, four live rounds of ammunition, a butcher’s chopper, 10 grams of YABA tablets, and 100 Diazepam BP 5 mg tablets. Additionally, investigators seized 250 empty bottles of Eskuf syrup, which raised suspicions of drug-syrup trafficking across the border.
Babul Miah, 49, was taken into custody at the scene, while his wife, Khursheda Begum, 27, was detained for questioning. A case is now being prepared at Sonamura Police Station under the appropriate legal provisions in response to the findings of the raid.
