Agartala: The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) Tripura State Committee has intensified its protest over the horrific sexual and physical assault of a 19-year-old student from Tripura in Gurgaon. In a notable turn of events today, the women’s organization was forced to send their memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Director General of Police (DGP) via post after being denied a direct audience due to procedural delays.
The Gurgaon Horror: A Recap
The victim, a second-year B.Sc. Biotechnology student at a private university in Gurgaon, was allegedly held captive for three days (February 16–18) by her live-in partner, Shivam (19).
- The Brutality: The survivor was subjected to extreme torture, including being struck with steel bottles and knives. Most disturbingly, the accused reportedly poured sanitizer on her private parts and set them on fire.
- The Rescue: She managed to make a desperate call to her mother in Tripura on February 18, speaking in Bengali so the accused wouldn’t understand. Her mother, a Tripura Police personnel, alerted the local authorities, leading to her rescue on February 19.
AIDWA’s Struggle for an Audience
Members of AIDWA reached the state headquarters today seeking an immediate meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and the DGP to demand state-level intervention and security for the girl’s family. However, the delegation was reportedly informed that they could not meet the high-ranking officials without a pre-scheduled appointment or an “official invitation letter” processed through the proper channels.
Expressing their frustration at the Agartala Head Post Office, an AIDWA leader stated:
”A daughter of our state is battling for her life in a Delhi hospital after facing unimaginable cruelty. We came here to demand that the Tripura government take full responsibility for her legal and medical battle. Since we were not allowed to meet the CM or DGP in person, we have sent our demands via registered post today.”
Demands Placed by the Association
In the letter sent today, AIDWA has placed the following demands:
- State Legal Support: The Tripura government must appoint a special legal team to ensure the accused receives the maximum penalty.
- Medical Expenses: Full coverage of treatment costs at Safdarjung Hospital, where the victim is currently in critical condition.
- Security for Family: Ensuring the safety of the mother and relatives who are currently in Delhi/Gurgaon pursuing the case.
- Fast-Track Trial: Coordination with the Haryana government for a fast-track court trial.
Current Status of the Case
The Gurgaon Police have already arrested the accused and registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of rape, wrongful confinement, and assault. The victim remains under intensive care in Delhi.
