AGARTALA: In a day of intense political maneuvering, the CPIM State Committee and the Tripura Left Front held back-to-back meetings today to finalize their strategy for the upcoming electoral battles. Following the deliberations, a joint press conference was addressed by Left Front Convenor Manik Dey, CPI State Secretary Milan Baidya, and RSP State Secretary Deepak Deb.
The Left Front officially released its candidate list for the TTAADC (ADC) elections, while also naming Amitava Datta as the candidate for the high-stakes Dharmanagar Assembly by-election.
Manik Dey: “ADC Has Been Pushed into Anarchy”
Left Front Convenor Manik Dey launched a scathing attack on the current administration of the ADC, alleging that the council has become a hub of scandals and financial mismanagement.
- Corruption Allegations: Dey claimed that the current leadership is unable to pay pensions, and funds meant for development are being looted.
- Social Distress: He highlighted reports of starvation, child selling, and a severe crisis of drinking water and education in the hills.
- Historical Context: He reminded voters that while the ADC slipped from the Left’s hands in 1990, 2000, and 2021, it was “never through a genuine public mandate” but through manipulation or tactical alliances with insurgents.
- Call for Peace: “The Left Front established a precedent of peace and harmony in the ADC. We demand a free and fair election, which has been missing under the current regime,” Dey asserted.
Jitendra Chaudhury: “A Match-Fixing Drama Between BJP and Motha”
CPIM State Secretary and Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury dismissed the public bickering between the BJP and Tipra Motha as “mere theatrics.”
- The “Loot” Share: “The Chief Minister claims there is a scam in the ADC under Motha, yet they sit together in the Cabinet with smiling faces. This is nothing but a fight over who gets a larger share of the loot,” Chaudhury remarked.
- Candidate Selection: He explained that the Left Front’s candidates were chosen based on a rigorous process prioritizing education, youth, and experience.
- Electoral Bonds & Black Money: In a direct swipe at the ruling party, he noted that while the BJP is flush with “electoral bond money,” the Left Front relies solely on the trust of the common people.
- Appeal to Secular Forces: Chaudhury issued a formal appeal to the Congress and other secular democratic parties to support Left Front candidates to defeat the BJP and restore democracy.
On Rahul Gandhi’s “CJP” Comment & Bengal President’s Rule
Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s recent controversial “CJP” (CPM + BJP) remark, Jitendra Chaudhury expressed his sharp disagreement, terming such labels as “unprecedented and detached from the ground reality of the Left’s struggle against fascism.”
Additionally, as the Leader of the Opposition, Chaudhury reacted to the ongoing discourse regarding President’s Rule in West Bengal, stating that the Left remains committed to constitutional processes while opposing administrative failures.
Dharmanagar: A Battle Against “Fascism”
The leadership expressed grave concern over the situation in Dharmanagar, alleging that democratic activists are being physically attacked and police are refusing to register cases. They urged the electorate to send a strong message by voting for Amitava Datta and the ADC candidates to end the “reign of terror.”
