A tragic incident occurred in the Radha Gobindapur village of Unakoti district in Tripura on Tuesday afternoon when a lightning strike claimed the life of a 29-year-old man and left two others critically injured at a rubber plantation.
Gautam Roy, the deceased victim, was killed instantly when lightning struck a hut where workers had sought shelter from heavy rainfall in the Kanchanbari area. The two injured workers, Nepal Gop and Tapan Shil, both 42 years old, are currently undergoing treatment at Unakoti District Hospital.
Upon arrival at Kanchanbari Primary Health Centre, medical staff pronounced Roy dead. Dr. Mantoshi Chakma assessed the condition of the two survivors and subsequently referred them to the district hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Nepal Gop expressed his sorrow, stating, “He died on the spot. We’ve lost a person whose worth cannot be described in words.”
The workers had been working in the rubber plantation when sudden heavy rain forced them to seek refuge in the hut, where the lightning struck without warning.
SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, who also serves as the MLA for the area, took to social media to offer his condolences over Roy’s tragic death and to wish the injured workers a speedy recovery. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by natural disasters and the importance of taking precautions during adverse weather conditions.
