In a significant success for the capital’s anti-narcotics drive, the East Agartala Police intercepted a drug smuggling attempt late Wednesday night. Acting on a secret tip-off, a police team conducted a raid in the area adjacent to Vijay Apartment, College Tilla, while the suspects were reportedly heading towards the Jogendranagar Railway Station.
The operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of a substantial quantity of contraband and electronic devices.
The Operation: Trapped Near College Tilla
The suspects were traveling in a Tom-Tom (E-Rickshaw), which was intercepted by the police team near the College Tilla bypass. Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, officers discovered a large stash of dry cannabis (Ganja) packed in multiple bundles.
OC Subrata Debnath, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, briefed the media today regarding the details of the seizure:
”Based on precise intelligence that a consignment was being moved toward the railway station for smuggling out of the state, we set up a picket near Vijay Apartment. We have successfully seized 18 kg of dry Ganja, two mobile phones, and the Tom-Tom used for transportation.”
Arrests and Seizures
- Suspects: Two persons (identities being withheld for further investigation) have been taken into custody.
- Contraband: 18 kg of high-quality dry cannabis.
- Property Seized: Two mobile phones and one E-Rickshaw (Tom-Tom).
Investigation into Inter-State Links
Police authorities suspect that the arrested duo are part of a larger network that uses the Jogendranagar and Agartala Railway Stations as transit points to smuggle drugs into other parts of the country.
OC Debnath added:
”The mobile phones recovered from them contain crucial data and contact numbers. We are analyzing the call records to trace the source of the Ganja and identify the Kingpins behind this trade.”
Legal Action
A case has been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The two accused will be produced before the Agartala Court today, where the police will seek their remand for further interrogation.
