West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made bold accusations against the BJP on Monday, claiming that the party is responsible for dividing people and called on the Centre to focus on securing India’s borders in light of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Banerjee, who visited Murshidabad for the first time since the riots last month, urged the government to deliver justice to those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack. She criticized the BJP for allegedly manipulating the situation in Murshidabad for political gain, particularly in the aftermath of three deaths during protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
“Instead of inciting communal violence, the government should prioritize border security and the well-being of the nation. Let’s focus on protecting India and ensuring justice for those who have suffered. I will not tolerate this kind of dirty politics,” Banerjee asserted.
In a scathing critique of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Banerjee questioned the organization’s motives following their visit to Murshidabad. She pointed out the NHRC’s seemingly selective approach, suggesting that they should also investigate issues in BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and the unrest in Manipur.
“Did the NHRC bother to visit Manipur or Uttar Pradesh? It’s curious how they were so quick to come to Murshidabad. It seems like a planned move, similar to how certain entities advertised about demonetization immediately after its announcement in 2016,” Banerjee claimed.
The Chief Minister’s comments highlight the growing tension between her party, the Trinamool Congress, and the BJP. As the political landscape in West Bengal continues to evolve, Banerjee’s vocal stance against the BJP’s alleged divisive tactics adds another layer to the ongoing political discourse in the state.
