Police in Tripura arrested a man on October 12 in connection with the alleged murder of a 14-month-old baby girl. The incident took place in the Padmabil area under the Panisagar sub-division of North District.
According to Rahul Balhera, IPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Panisagar, the child went missing late Saturday night after her maternal grandfather, Joynal Uddin, took her out. “Last night we received information that a 14-month-old girl was missing… it had been three hours since both of them had not returned,” he said.
Initially, the family of the child searched the village but were unable to locate her. They then informed the police about the missing child. “Around midnight, I, along with the Officer-in-Charge of Panisagar, again started searching for her. In a paddy field, we found her body, which was buried beneath the field,” Balhera added.
The body was immediately sent to the hospital for further investigation, and a forensic team was called in to assist. An FIR was registered on Sunday morning, and the police launched an intensive investigation into the case. The accused was eventually arrested around 2 pm from Nilambazar in Assam.
The tragic incident has shocked the local community, and police are working diligently to gather more information and bring the perpetrator to justice. The motive behind the alleged murder is still under investigation, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
