Bishramganj, Tripura 17th March 2025.
A massive fire, triggered by an electrical short circuit, destroyed two rented residential houses in Pathalia Ghat, near Don Bosco School under the jurisdiction of Bishramganj police station. The devastating incident took place on Monday morning, causing an estimated loss of over Rs.25 lakhs, according to initial assessments.
Sources from the locality confirmed that two tenant families were residing in the house at the time of the fire. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but the blaze reduced all belongings to ashes within minutes.
Upon receiving the emergency call, a team from the Bishramganj Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot. However, due to the narrow access road leading to the house, fire personnel faced significant challenges in reaching the flames. After prolonged efforts and by connecting long hoses, they finally managed to bring the fire under control. By then, however, the two homes were completely gutted, leaving the families homeless.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from a short circuit in the electrical wiring of the house.
Reports indicate that the owner of the house was not present when the fire broke out, and only the two tenants — Sanchit Debbarma and Sajal Debbarma — were inside the house. Both are now left with nothing but clothes on their backs, as all household goods, furniture, documents, and valuables were destroyed.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as terrifying. “The fire spread so fast that there was no time to save anything,” said a neighbor who watched helplessly as the flames engulfed the house.
According to local residents, property worth over Rs.25 lakh has been lost, including essential household items and structural damage to the house.
The incident has sparked concern and sympathy among locals, who are now calling for urgent support from local administration and disaster relief funds to help the affected families recover from this tragic loss.
Authorities have assured that an official investigation is underway to confirm the cause of the fire and assess the exact damage. In the meantime, the fire victims are in desperate need of shelter, food, and essential supplies.
This incident once again highlights the urgent need for strict maintenance of electrical systems in residential areas and better emergency access routes, so that tragedies like this can be prevented in the future.
