Agartala, Tripura 17th March 2025.
On Monday, the Tripura unit of the All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation organized a massive protest rally in front of the CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) State Office, located on Office Lane in Agartala.
A large number of transport workers participated in the rally, raising their voices over multiple pressing demands. These included fair wages, job security, pending dues, social security benefits, and improved working conditions for transport workers across the state.
Senior leader Manik Dey, along with other prominent members of the federation, led the rally. Addressing the gathering, Manik Dey said,
“We are forced to take to the streets because even after working tirelessly, our workers are deprived of fair wages and basic benefits. The problems faced by transport workers are growing day by day. Unless the government takes immediate steps to resolve these issues, our movement will continue.”
The rally commenced from Office Lane and marched through various significant parts of the city before culminating back in front of the CITU State Office.
According to the organizers, this protest was a strong message to the government to fulfill their long-standing demands. They also emphasized that unless proper steps are taken, they will intensify their movement in the coming days.
It is worth noting that transport workers in Tripura have been grappling with unemployment, irregular payments, lack of job security, and absence of social protection for a long time. Through this rally, they aim to draw urgent attention to their plight and seek justice.
Despite some tension in the area due to the large gathering, the rally remained peaceful under police supervision and concluded without any untoward incident.
