News Report:
Agartala, Tripura: Acting on the Chief Minister’s keen interest in restoring the historic Prabhu Bari pond, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and local MLA Dipak Majumder had conducted an inspection of the site on December 1. During the inspection, it was found that several surrounding houses had illegally encroached upon the pond’s land.
Taking serious note of the situation, the Mayor had directed immediate demarcation of the pond area to clearly identify its original boundaries. Following the completion of the demarcation process, municipal workers faced resistance while attempting to remove the encroachments and free the land.
After being informed about the obstacles, Mayor Dipak Majumder revisited the site on Wednesday and carried out a fresh inspection. He issued clear and firm instructions to Agartala Municipal Corporation officials to demolish all illegal constructions by Thursday morning without delay. He also directed that demarcation be carried out again after clearance and that restoration work of the pond be completed at the earliest.
It may be noted that the Prabhu Bari pond, dating back to the royal era, is spread over nearly one and a half tilla (approximately 1.5 kani). Local residents have expressed happiness over the restoration initiative, stating that the revival of the pond will help preserve heritage, improve the environment, and enhance water conservation in the area.
