News Report:
The modern Fish Transshipment Yard at Nagicherra, located on the outskirts of the city, was inaugurated to ease traffic congestion and maintain cleanliness in Agartala’s market areas. Built jointly by the state government and the municipal corporation, the facility serves as a designated point where large trucks carrying fish from outside the state are unloaded. From there, smaller vehicles transport the fish to various city markets.
For the past two years, this system has been functioning smoothly, but some operational issues have recently emerged. To assess these concerns, Agartala Mayor Deepak Majumdar visited the Nagicherra yard today.
Along with the Mayor, Municipal Commissioner D.K. Chakma, local Corporator and Mayor-in-Council member Uday Bhaskar Bhattacharjee, and representatives from different markets were also present during the inspection.
Speaking to the media, Mayor Majumdar stated that certain improvements are necessary, including better lighting arrangements, construction of a guard room, and additional infrastructural upgrades. He emphasised that today’s visit was aimed at identifying these gaps and ensuring that the yard continues to function efficiently for the city’s benefit.
