Mizoram’s young footballers showcased their prowess on the pitch as they cruised to a resounding 11-1 victory over Tripura in the Swami Vivekananda Men’s U20 National Football Championship. The match, held at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Stadium, saw Mizoram secure a spot in the quarter-finals with an impressive performance.
After a tight first half that saw Mizoram holding a narrow 2-1 lead, they unleashed an offensive onslaught in the second half, scoring a total of nine goals. Mesak Lalrinngheta and PC Pazawna were the stand-out performers, each scoring four goals, while Michael Lalbiaksanga added two more and Ngurthanmawia chipped in with one. Tripura’s only goal came from Sukha Dayal Jamatia.
In the other Group D match, Jharkhand narrowly defeated Himachal Pradesh 2-1. Chandra Mohan Soy opened the scoring for Jharkhand, but Aryan Thakur equalized for Himachal Pradesh in the second half. Daksh Kumar Mahli then secured the winning goal for Jharkhand.
With this victory, Mizoram now sits comfortably at the top of Group D with nine points from three matches, making them the clear favorites to advance to the quarter-finals. Maharashtra and Tripura, both with six points, are still in contention but trail behind Mizoram on tiebreakers.
