Agartala: In a significant breakthrough against illegal infiltration, the Amtali Police arrested a youth from Myanmar on Friday for residing in the state without valid documentation. The individual, identified as Kabil Anam, had reportedly been living clandestinely in the Hapania area, under the jurisdiction of the Amtali Police Station, for the past two months.
Acting on precise intelligence regarding a foreign national hiding in the locality, a police team led by Amtali officials conducted a raid and detained Anam. During preliminary questioning, the youth failed to produce any legal travel documents or a valid visa, eventually confessing to being a citizen of Myanmar.
Police Action and Investigation
Speaking to the media today, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Amtali Police Station, Paritosh Das, confirmed that a specific case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act.
“We received secret information that a foreign national was staying illegally in Hapania for nearly two months. Based on that tip-off, we detained Kabil Anam. He is being produced before the court today with a prayer for police remand,” OC Paritosh Das stated.
Security Concerns and Local Connections
The arrest has raised serious security concerns regarding how the individual managed to cross the international border and remain undetected in a busy suburban area like Hapania for sixty days. The police believe that a thorough interrogation during the remand period will help uncover:
- The route used for infiltration.
- The identity of local individuals or syndicates who provided him with shelter and logistical support.
- Whether the accused was involved in any other suspicious or anti-national activities during his stay.
The Amtali police have intensified their vigil in the Hapania and nearby rail station areas following the incident. This arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal infiltration in the West Tripura district, which has seen several such detentions in recent months.
