The case of the missing honeymooners from Indore, Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, has taken a new turn with the emergence of CCTV footage and the request for a CBI probe by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The couple had travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20, but after checking out of their hotel in Shillong on May 23, they disappeared.
Raja’s body was later found with wounds from a Dao (machete), but Sonam remains missing. The search operation has been hindered by difficult terrain and weather conditions, with rescue teams only able to work for short periods before calling it a day. A new CCTV footage released recently shows the couple arriving at a homestay in Shillong, interacting with each other before Raja hands over some items to Sonam.
Sonam’s brother, Gaurav, who has been in Shillong assisting with the search, expressed relief at the MP government’s decision to seek a CBI probe. He stated that despite efforts by the police and NDRF, there has been no progress in the case. Gaurav also mentioned that the police have been unable to crack the case even with the new CCTV footage that was leaked to the media.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has assured support to Sonam’s family and has requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a CBI probe into the matter. He emphasized that every effort is being made to ensure the safe return of Sonam Raghuvanshi. The mystery surrounding the disappearance and murder of the newly-wed couple has left investigators and the public perplexed, with hopes that a CBI investigation will provide answers.
From our Reporter : The goons are at large in these areas…..and it’s not the first time that atrocities against tourists have happened in Meghalaya. Even the foreign tourists were also attacked in earlier incidences. These goons are there in the hilly tracts and do rob the passer byes….but do not normally go to this extent. This is the outcome of no income source of the youth….primarily unemployment is having its toll. The clash of Tribal-nontribal and the I’ll feelings are paramount in these parts of NE. This has been an old adage for the last 40-50 years. The only thread that binds is the income source….so since the income is happening from the tourists the chord is maintained. But once some sort of disappointment is there, the pic takes an ugly turn.,…and in this case it took a very ugly turn. The govt now has a knee jerk reaction as the top brass of the political arena got involved. So justice should be and will be served. But only that how much time and to what extent.
