15-day long nationwide awareness campaign on tribal development will be inaugurated tomorrow at the Agartala Pragna Bhavan during a press conference with officials from the Department of Tribal Welfare, said Shubhashis Das, the Director of the Department.
Agartala: In commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on October 2, 2024, the Honorable Prime Minister of India launched the “Development of Tribal Village Campaign” (DAJGUA) in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. This initiative aims to uplift the underdeveloped regions inhabited by tribal communities. The campaign covers 63,843 villages in 2,911 blocks across 549 districts in India, benefiting over 50 million tribal citizens. The campaign is set to run from 2024-25 to 2028-29.
The objective of DAJGUA is to address significant gaps in social infrastructure, healthcare, education, and livelihood sectors. This initiative will be funded through 25 programs of 17 related ministries of the Indian government.
In Tripura, the campaign will cover 775 gram panchayats and village committees in 392 revenue villages across 52 blocks in 8 districts. The implementation of the Development of Tribal Village Campaign will be carried out through 20 different departments in the state. In celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the state government is conducting an awareness and outreach campaign called “Tribal Inclusive Development Campaign” from June 15 to June 30, 2025.
Various services and facilities will be provided at the grassroots level during these camps, including Aadhar cards, ration cards, caste certificates, vaccination drives, financial inclusion, agricultural credit cards, insurance schemes, and various allowances for widows, divyangs (disabled individuals), and the elderly.
On June 15, 2025, the Honorable Minister of Tribal Welfare Department, Shri Bikash Debbarma, will announce the state-level launch of the campaign at the Pragna Bhavan in Agartala, accompanied by other dignitaries. On the same day, the campaign will kick off simultaneously in all districts and blocks of the state.
The campaign will also include organizing special village meetings to raise awareness among the general population and ensure the effective implementation of DAJGUA. Beneficiary Saturation Camps will be organized at the block level for comprehensive beneficiary outreach.
To enhance awareness, quiz competitions, painting contests, health camps, and other activities will be organized to educate people about the campaign. The goal of the campaign is to ensure 100% coverage of individual beneficiary projects like Aadhar, Ayushman Bharat, PM Jan Dhan, PM Kisan, and PM Kisan among others by the 2nd October 2025 anniversary of DAJGUA.
Since the announcement of DAJGUA in 2024, significant progress has been made in 392 revenue villages in the state, with approvals totaling Rs. 280.99 crore for various projects under the Tribal Welfare Department, including the construction of 20 new hostels, 2 Multi-Purpose Marketing Centers (TMMC), establishment of 16 hostel complexes in ashrams/government/residential schools, and setting up 9 Forest Rights Act (FRA) cells.
Additionally, approvals have been granted for the construction of 119 anganwadi centers, Rs. 14.28 crore for fish farming in 28 hectares of water bodies, Rs. 22.36 crore under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, and Rs. 242.37 crore for electricity connection to 7,677 families and 512 public places.
Under the Jeevan Mission, nearly 82% of tribal families have been provided with tap water connections, and 100% connectivity has been achieved in 35 villages.
Mobile medical units (MMUs) will be proposed for all villages where there are no health facilities within a 5 km radius. Additionally, 24 mobile units will be set up under PM JANMAN.
All eligible beneficiaries are strongly encouraged to actively participate in the campaign camps to avail the various government projects and services provided under DAJGUA.
