AI Will Impact 2 Million Jobs — But It Might Also Create 4 Million More. So Where Do We Stand?
As a job seeker in India’s tech ecosystem, the latest NITI Aayog report — “Roadmap for Job Creation in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Economy” — hit me like both a warning and an opportunity.
The report admits what many of us already feel:
➡️ Over 60% of formal jobs in India could be disrupted by automation by 2030.
➡️ Our AI talent supply is only half of current demand.
➡️ And many Indian graduates still lack exposure to advanced concepts like Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) or hands-on AI research.
That’s sobering.
But here’s the flip side — India also has the potential to become the “AI Workforce Capital of the World” if we act fast.
NITI Aayog’s plan suggests:
🌐 A national India AI Talent Mission to unify all skill and education initiatives.
🎓 AI integration across schools and universities so young minds learn coding, ethics, and applied intelligence early.
💻 A Federated Compute & Innovation Grid connecting universities, startups, and research centers.
💡 And even a proposed AI Talent Visa to attract and retain world-class researchers.
For those of us looking to build or rebuild careers in the AI era, this roadmap is not just policy—it’s a call to evolve.
Maybe the next five years won’t just be about job loss, but job transformation.
The real question isn’t “Will AI take my job?” anymore.
It’s “Am I preparing myself for the new ones AI will create?”
