Agartala, Tripura: The North East Muaythai and K1 Championship commenced on Wednesday at the NSRCC Boxing Hall in Agartala. The championship is being organised by the CSD Foundation in collaboration with the All Tripura Amateur Muaythai Association, bringing together fighters from across the North Eastern region.
The competition was formally inaugurated by Tripura Sports Council Secretary Sukanta Ghosh. Also present at the opening ceremony were All Tripura Amateur Muaythai Association President Prosenjit Sinha and other officials associated with sports and martial arts promotion in the state. Around 150 male and female competitors from different North Eastern states are participating in the championship.
Addressing the gathering during the inaugural programme, Sports Council Secretary Sukanta Ghosh said that special emphasis has been placed on sports development in Tripura since the formation of the BJP-led government. He noted that the Chief Minister himself being a sportsperson has given focused attention to the overall growth of sports infrastructure and athlete welfare in the state.
He further mentioned that the state government has introduced insurance coverage for sportspersons, keeping athletes’ safety and future security in mind. In addition, several stadiums have been named after former sportspersons as a mark of respect and recognition for their contributions.
Sukanta Ghosh also appealed to athletes to stay away from addiction and encouraged them to motivate others to engage in sports, highlighting sports as a powerful tool to keep youth away from substance abuse and lead a disciplined life.
