President Droupadi Murmu recently awarded North Tripura District for their outstanding performance in water conservation efforts. The district secured the top spot in the North East & Hilly Zone under the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) campaign. District Magistrate Chandni Chandran received the award from President Murmu during a ceremony at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
North Tripura District’s achievement was highlighted by the construction of over 11,000 water conservation structures between February and May 2025. This large-scale initiative earned the district a prize of Rs 2 crore. Officials commended the district for taking a significant step towards ensuring long-term water security in a region where community-driven resource management plays a crucial role.
Additionally, Sepahijala district also received national recognition for their water conservation efforts. They were awarded the National Water Award 2024 in the Best District (North East Zone) category, which was accepted by District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal.
Both districts attributed their success to the close coordination between government departments, unwavering support from public representatives, and active participation from local communities. Officials expressed their gratitude to all those involved, emphasizing that it was a collective effort that led to this national milestone being achieved.
