The OBC Federation, also known as the OBC Joint Movement Forum (OBC Joutha Andolan Mancha), organized a significant convention at the Agartala Press Club today to celebrate ‘OBC Jagaran Diwas’ (OBC Awareness Day). The event was aimed at uniting the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community and advocating for their socio-economic and constitutional rights in Tripura.
A highlight of the program was a solemn ceremony where the federation conferred posthumous honors upon several distinguished personalities from the OBC community who made lifelong contributions to society, education, and culture.
Focus on Rights and Recognition
During the meeting, the Joint Coordinators of the federation, Shri Subrata Bhowmik and Shri Naresh Chandra Datta, addressed the gathering. They emphasized the need for a unified movement to ensure proper representation and the implementation of reservation policies as per national standards.
”OBC Jagaran Diwas is not just a celebration; it is a call for awareness. We must remember the stalwarts of our community who paved the way for us. Today, by honoring them posthumously, we take an oath to continue their legacy and fight for the rights of the OBC population in the state,” said Subrata Bhowmik.
Key Highlights of the Event:
- Posthumous Felicitation: Families of deceased OBC icons were presented with mementos and certificates of honor in recognition of their ancestors’ service to the state.
- Organizational Strengthening: The forum discussed future strategies for a state-wide awareness campaign to educate the community about various government schemes and legal protections.
- Call for Unity: Speakers urged all sub-castes within the OBC category to come under one umbrella to strengthen their collective bargaining power.
The event saw the participation of various community leaders, intellectuals, and activists from different parts of the state. The leaders of the OBC Joint Movement Forum concluded the session by reiterating their demand for a more comprehensive survey and census of the OBC population in Tripura to ensure equitable development.
