A source close to Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has accused Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir of dragging the country into conflict with India due to his ego and personal ambitions. The source, who is part of Khan’s inner circle, blamed the recent escalation on the military’s “high-handedness” and involvement in a cartelised cross-border terror infrastructure operation.
The tensions between India and Pakistan reached a boiling point when Indian forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in retaliation for the deaths of innocent civilians at the hands of terrorists trained in Pakistan. The operation targeted nine terror infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 17 terrorists and injuries to 60 others.
Key terror infrastructure locations in areas such as Kotli, Ahmadpur Sharqia, Muzaffarabad, Muridke, and Faisalabad were hit with precision strikes. Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters in Muridke and Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar’s madrassa were also targeted in the operation.
Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), decided to skip a government briefing on the situation between Pakistan and India, citing a lack of effort to build national consensus and the exclusion of important national leaders like Khan. The PTI’s political committee stated that their participation in the briefing was unnecessary.
Sources revealed that General Asim Munir had initially remained silent after his appointment but adopted a confrontational approach after failing to control domestic unrest, particularly the rising support for Imran Khan and the PTI. The source’s accusations indicate growing discontent within Khan’s inner circle towards the military’s role in escalating tensions with India.
