Prof. Shyamal Das, a highly esteemed professor in the Department of English at Tripura University, has been appointed as the temporary vice-chancellor of the institution. This announcement was made through an official notification released on Thursday, following the retirement of Vice-Chancellor Ganga Prasad Prasin on August 16.
The decision to appoint Prof. Das as the temporary vice-chancellor was made in accordance with a letter from the Ministry of Education, Government of India, which was received on August 21. The notification stated that Prof. Das would hold the position for a period of one year or until a regular vice-chancellor is appointed, whichever comes first.
Registrar Deepak Sharma further clarified that it is standard procedure for the senior-most professor of the university to assume the role of vice-chancellor when the position becomes vacant due to retirement. In this case, Prof. Das, with his extensive experience and expertise, was deemed the most suitable candidate to temporarily lead Tripura University.
Prof. Das has been a dedicated member of the faculty at Tripura University for many years, and his colleagues and students have expressed confidence in his ability to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the vice-chancellor’s role. As the university moves forward under his leadership, there is optimism for continued academic excellence and growth within the institution.
