AGARTALA: In a powerful display of youth solidarity, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Tribal Youth Federation (TYF) officially launched their statewide campaign, “Projonmo Bachao” (Save the Generation), today. The program commenced with a solemn ceremony at AD Nagar, where leaders and activists paid floral tributes at the statue of Swami Vivekananda, seeking inspiration from his call for youth empowerment.
Inauguration by Sports Icon
The movement was formally inaugurated by Shri Arup Debbarma, former captain of the Tripura Ranji Trophy cricket team. His presence signaled the broadening of the movement beyond political circles, as he urged the youth to stay away from social evils and fight for their fundamental rights to employment and dignity.
“The youth are the backbone of our state. If our generation is lost to unemployment and addiction, the future of Tripura is in darkness. It is time for every conscious citizen to stand up and protect our collective future,” Arup Debbarma remarked during the inauguration.
The 5-Point Charter of Demands
The joint movement by the youth organizations is centered on five critical demands addressed to the state government:
- Filling Government Vacancies: Immediate recruitment for nearly 50,000 vacant posts across various departments, including Health and Education.
- War on Drugs: A massive, genuine social movement to eradicate the drug and gambling menace that is currently gripping both rural and urban youth.
- End to Corruption & Mafia Raj: Stopping institutional corruption and the “Jungle Raj” allegedly fueled by political interference and mafia activities.
- Protection of Women & Minorities: Ensuring safety and justice for women, minorities, and tribal communities amidst rising reports of violence.
- Support for Self-Employment: Halting political attacks and interference in independent self-employment initiatives launched by the state’s youth.
Leadership Voices
The launch event saw the participation of top Left youth leaders. DYFI State Secretary Nabarun De and State President Palash Bhowmik slammed the current administration for what they called “hollow promises of a drug-free Tripura.”
“While the government talks about ‘Viksit Tripura,’ our youth are drowning in HIV/AIDS cases and synthetic drugs. We have over 50,000 vacancies, yet the government remains indifferent. This ‘Projonmo Bachao’ movement will travel to every booth and hamlet to awaken the people,” said Nabarun De.
Statewide Agitation Roadmap
Following today’s inauguration at AD Nagar, the DYFI-TYF combine plans to hold series of:
- Mass Sit-ins (Gana Abhashthan): Scheduled across all district and sub-divisional headquarters.
- Village Outreach: To educate families on the legal rights of workers and the dangers of the current “mafia culture.”
- Youth Rallies: Culminating in a massive central rally in Agartala later this month.
The ceremony concluded with the participants taking a pledge to uphold the values of Swami Vivekananda and to remain steadfast in their struggle until their five-point demands are met by the administration.
