AGARTALA: In a heartwarming gesture of communal harmony and neighborhood bonding, Ratna Datta, the Corporator of Ward No. 20, hosted a special Iftar gathering at the Agartala Central Town Jame Masjid today. Beyond the collective meal, she also reached out to the local community by distributing sweets to 50 families to aid in their Ramadan celebrations.
The holy month of Ramadan is currently being observed by the Muslim community, a period characterized by dawn-to-dusk fasting, prayer, and reflection. The fast is traditionally broken in the evening with the Iftar meal.
A Tradition of Togetherness
For Corporator Ratna Datta, this is not a one-time event but a long-standing tradition. Every year, ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, she organizes Iftar programs at two major mosques within her ward to show solidarity with her constituents.
Key Highlights of the Outreach:
- Central Town Jame Masjid: Today’s event saw a large gathering of devotees who broke their fast together with the food and refreshments provided by the Corporator.
- Sweet Distribution: To add to the festive spirit, 50 families in the vicinity received packets of sweets, ensuring that the joy of the upcoming festival reaches every household.
- Upcoming Event: Continuing her outreach, Ratna Datta announced that she will be hosting another Iftar session this coming Saturday at the Gangail Road Mosque.
Looking Ahead to Eid-ul-Fitr
The month-long period of spiritual devotion will culminate in the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, which is expected to be celebrated on March 21, 2026 (subject to the sighting of the moon).
Speaking on the occasion, Ratna Datta expressed that such gatherings are essential for maintaining the peaceful social fabric of Agartala.
”Festivals are a time for sharing and caring. By coming together for Iftar, we reinforce our identity as a united community where every religion and culture is respected. It is my privilege to serve the people of Ward 20 and participate in their holy traditions,” she said.
Community Appreciation
The members of the Agartala Central Town Jame Masjid committee and local residents thanked the Corporator for her consistent support. They noted that such initiatives by local representatives play a vital role in fostering mutual respect and brotherhood among different communities in the city.
