Residents of the Amabasa area in Kamalpur subdivision took to the streets in protest yesterday, blocking the main road to demand immediate repair and restoration of the dangerously dilapidated local roads. The protest, which saw a significant turnout of women and elderly citizens, brought traffic to a standstill and drew attention to the hardships faced by the community due to government negligence.
Protesters expressed frustration over the lack of response to their repeated complaints to the authorities about the deteriorating road conditions. They highlighted the challenges posed by the collapsed roads, particularly during the monsoon season, and warned that they would blockade the road again if their demands were not met promptly.
In a separate development, concerns are mounting in Chailengta over the poor state of roads at the Churaibari sector, a key entry point into the state. The condition of the Assam-Agartala National Highway near the Tripura-Mizoram border is also deteriorating rapidly, sparking anger among the public over the state government’s failure to address basic infrastructure needs despite promises and central funding.
Local leaders and commuters criticized the government for its lack of oversight and maintenance of crucial roads, especially those vital for inter-state transportation. As road conditions continue to worsen, public outrage is growing, and there are mounting calls for urgent government intervention to address the pressing infrastructure issues.
