The administration of Puranigam has evicted a colony of 19 families on the other side of the river Hooghly in South Joyapur. The operation began this morning, with officials from the administration leading the way. As part of the Smart City project, the state government has started construction work on the banks of the Hooghly river. As a result, work has also begun on evicting this temporary colony. However, to make way for this eviction, work on the main road has been temporarily suspended.
