AGARTALA: A major road accident was narrowly averted for pedestrians today when a speeding car lost control and crashed into a road divider in the Drop Gate area. The vehicle, a car bearing registration number TR01H-2297, was traveling from Agartala towards the southern side of the city when the mishap occurred.
While the driver sustained injuries, eyewitnesses noted that it was a miraculous escape for several pedestrians who were near the divider at the time of the impact.
The Incident: High-Impact Collision
According to reports from the spot, the driver of the vehicle appeared to be speeding when they lost control of the steering. The car struck the concrete divider with such force that the front portion of the vehicle was completely mangled.
Key Details of the Accident:
- Location: Drop Gate area, Agartala (Southbound lane).
- Vehicle Involved: Private car, Registration No. TR01H-2297.
- Casualties: The driver was the sole person injured; fortunately, no pedestrians or other vehicles were hit during the swerve.
- Emergency Response: On receiving the alert, personnel from the Tripura Fire & Emergency Services rushed to the scene.
Rescue and Medical Aid
The fire service team successfully extricated the driver from the damaged vehicle. Given the proximity of the accident site to the southern medical hub, the injured driver was immediately transported to the Hapania (Tripura Medical College) Hospital for emergency treatment.
The current condition of the driver is reported to be stable, though they are undergoing observation for internal injuries sustained during the high-speed impact.
Traffic Disruption and Investigation
The accident caused a temporary snarl on the Agartala-Sabroom road as the damaged vehicle blocked one side of the lane. Local police from the Amtali Police Station arrived shortly after to oversee the removal of the vehicle and restore the flow of traffic.
”The impact was very loud, and for a moment, we thought the car would flip over onto the other side of the road. It is fortunate that no one was crossing the divider at that exact moment. The driver was lucky the airbags or the car’s structure prevented a more fatal outcome,” said a local shopkeeper who witnessed the crash.
The police have seized the vehicle and are investigating whether mechanical failure or driver fatigue contributed to the loss of control.
